Whenever a life is turned upside down by disaster, the American Red Cross is ready. Ready with a safe place to sleep. Ready with a hot meal. Ready to help people get back on their feet.
For more than 125 years, the Red Cross has been responding to disasters across America. In fact, each year in communities large and small, victims of some 70,000 emergencies of every size turn to the Red Cross for help. Most of these emergency responses are managed by more than 700 Red Cross chapters across the country, with help and hope provided by hundreds of thousands of volunteers of all ages.
Though we're most visible after hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and tornadoes, we also respond every day to the needs of families affected by destructive home fires. Even if it involves just one person or one family, a disaster can be devastating if it happens to you. You don't have to get the nation's attention to get ours. The Red Cross is not a government agency. We rely on donations–your donations–to do our work. An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs that make a real difference in the lives of millions of people. While you read this, the Red Cross is responding to disasters of every size and scope, providing relief to individuals, families, and entire communities in need-free of charge. Whether the crisis is immediate and personal, or affects the entire nation, the Red Cross is ready to help. Are you ready to help the Red Cross?
