Building on a tradition that dates back to 1860, Boys & Girls Clubs help strengthen communities by providing a safe, positive, constructive place for youth. Clubs offer young people ages 6-18 a chance to reach their full potential as productive, responsible citizens by developing ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals.
To help make that happen, Boys & Girls Clubs of America offers a wide range of national programs in the areas of technology, education, the environment, health, the arts, careers, alcohol/drug and pregnancy prevention, gang prevention, leadership development, and athletics.
Several key characteristics define the essence of a Boys & Girls Clubs.- It assures that all girls and boys can afford to belong. Membership dues are kept low so that all girls and boys can afford to belong and even the least interested will not be deterred from joining. Dues average $10 to $20 per year.
- It is for all girls and boys. Young people of all races, religions, and ethnic cultures are eligible to become members.
- It is guidance-oriented. A Boys & Girls Clubs emphasizes positive values in the relationships members have with each other and their adult leaders. It helps boys and girls make appropriate and satisfying choices in their physical, educational, personal, social, emotional, vocational, and spiritual lives.
Serving more than 4.6 million boys and girls through some 4,000 Clubs across the country, and on U.S. military installations worldwide, Clubs help start young people off on the right path by providing them with hope and opportunity.
